What to expect on an initial assessment Initial assessments include a psychological formulation of the challenges your currently experiencing. This would include: • Understanding your early developmental experiences and significant relationships • Understanding significant life events or transitional periods • How your current difficult experiences may be impacting on your work, school, or relationships. • What factors may be maintaining the problem • Current resources, skills or strengths that serve as protective factors. The purpose of this information allows me to have an overview of the current challenges you are experiencing. Sometimes, questionnaires or assessment tests may be used to aid in the assessment process. After the assessment process, the next meeting would include a review of your psychological formulation and possible recommendation for therapeutic interventions that would be helpful. My approaches are based on the foundations of trauma-informed principles while utilizing Integrative Psychotherapy, Cognitive Behavior Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Motivational Interviewing and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) to help you move towards your goal of recovery.
