Phil Cox

Media & Production Safety
Phil is a filmmaker and video journalist with over 20 years worth of experience in conflict reportage. He has received the British Grierson Award and the Rory Peck Award for his work covering the enduring conflict war in Sudan. His credits include the BBC, CHANNEL 4, NETFLIX, HBO, Al-JAZEERA, ARTE and other brodcasters. He teaches and lectures globally on good practice journalism and field protocols and works with SEPAR on our training courses in media production and field safety.
Whilst making a film in 2016 highlighting human rights abuses in Darfur, Phil was kidnapped along with his Sudanese colleague by militias and then imprisoned by the government. In a journalist to journalist tailored series of lectures, Phil shares his experiences with our participants, giving a unique perspective on day to day media safety and covering a story in hazardous environments. In his spare time Phil likes to travel, (he recently walked from Sicily to London with his ten year old son!) - a bit of boxing, star gazing and cooking cakes.
